Sensium® is a discreet, wearable, wireless system for monitoring vital signs of patients outside of high acuity areas. By using a light comfortable sensor worn on the patients chest, Sensium® accurately and reliably monitors and reports heart rate, respiration rate and axillary temperature providing data every two minutes. By notifying clinicians of changes in patients’ vital signs, Sensium® brings the nurse to the deteriorating patient. The Sensium® platform ensures clinicians have the data they need to act on deteriorating patients in any setting, including pre and post hospital admission.
75% of all adverse events and preventable deaths occur outside the ICU in unmonitored beds1
In general care areas of the hospital, vital signs are typically taken during routine observation rounds once every four to eight hours.
If a patient deteriorates between these observation rounds the warning signs can go undetected for hours, potentially leading to serious and costly consequences.
The Sensium® system is intended for use in low acuity wards for hospital inpatients who are currently not on automated monitoring but who are at risk of deterioration. This includes patients on general wards, post-operative med/surg. wards and patients waiting before and after treatment in Accident and Emergency departments.
The Sensium® Patch provides accurate and continuous monitoring of the three key lead indicators of patient deterioration: heart-rate (HR), respiration rate (RR) and axillary temperature (T). Sensium wirelessly communicates this physiological information via safe and secure low power wireless communication to the network of Sensium® bridges placed through the ward area.
The Sensium® bridges are connected into the hospital IT system and the Sensium Link® software installed on the hospital network allows patient data to be seamlessly conveyed to clinical staff where and when they need it most. The Sensium® system allows patients to ambulate freely, untethered to static and expensive equipment, whilst still having the reassurance of continuous monitoring.
Sensium® accurately and reliably monitors and transmits patients’ vital signs every 2 minutes. Notifications of patient deterioration, patient vital history and current vital signs can be viewed at nursing stations or on the move using the Sensium® mobile app . If required, patients can be manually or automatically escalated for review by senior clinicians.
Sensium® uses industry standard HL7 protocols to easily integrate with the hospital admission, discharge & transfer systems and electronic medical records.
Sensium® allows the ability to enter additional patient data, in conjunction with pre-populated heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature values from the Sensium® patch in order to calculate an Early Warning Score (EWS) and clinical response. The time until the next observation round is due is clearly displayed. The Sensium EWS and clinical responses are configurable to match your observation policy.
Sensium® provides tangible benefits for the patient, clinical teams and for the hospital.
